Rackstadkolonin – Mood painting, handicraft and design
6 September 2025 – 15 February 2026
Welcome to a fascinating presentation spotlighting the work of the Rackstad Colony, one of Sweden’s most influential artist groups at the turn of the century 1900. Artists and craftsmen had gradually gathered in the idyllic milieu by Lake Racken in the western province of Värmland, and these included Gustaf Fjaestad and his wife Maja Fjaestad, Christian Eriksson, Fritz Lindström, Björn Ahlgrensson and Hilma Persson-Hjelm, who created everything from moody and evocative landscape paintings and portraits to groundbreaking artisanship and textile art. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to experience the creative community of Rackstad and to discover how their nature-inspired motifs and artisanship came to have a major influence on Swedish art.
