Toward the Modern – Christian Skredsvig
April 5 – October 5 2025
Opening in spring 2025, Waldemarsudde will host the first major presentation in Sweden of Norwegian artist Christian Skredsvig. Relatively unknown in Sweden, Skredsvig (1854–1924), is considered in Norway as one of the great painters of his age. His lyrical landscapes with animals and human figures draw the viewer into a visual world of feeling and atmosphere rooted in the Norwegian environment. The exhibition includes small and large format works by Skredsvig alongside paintings by some of his fellow artist of Norway’s ‘Golden Age’, such as Edvard Munch, Kitty Kjielland, Harriet Backer and Eilif Peterssen. The exhibition is currently on display at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter near Oslo, and at Waldemarsudde in spring 2025 will be complemented with several works with Norwegian motifs by Prince Eugen and a selection of works by Eugen’s Norwegian artist friends.
